The component of Engaged and Empowered Communities derives its framework of empowerment by working through Self Help Groups(SHGs). The intervention strategy of the organisation empowers liberated bonded laborers to take leadership in organizing communities into self-help groups (SHGs). These groups are organized into clusters that are linked together to form a SHG Federation for the district. The Federation mobilizes the community members and pressure relevant stakeholders to address debt bondage in Meja, Manda, Koraon, Shankergar and Jasra block of Allahabad.
These community groups will prepare “Freedom Plans” which include strategic action steps for pursuing freedom from debt bondage. Additionally, the groups will be provided with information about labour migration in order to address the increase in cases of unsafe labour migration in the project area.
